Coffee Grounds and Sharpened Pencils …IF only.

So, I’m working on an exciting new illustration project.

The only hint I can give you is “farm.”
And that I’m going through coffee at a frighteningly fast rate…
…Oh, and I can show you this fun little collection I put together for a creative boost:

Barn Crates and Sunbeams
I found the “Garden Dirt Fragrance Oil” by AdamsboroSundries particularly inspiring:

But, I have been drawing up a storm…
Okay. So I guess I will also give you this sneak peak:

But that’s all you get.
For now.
(and I hope you feel “suspended” :)

Fashionably Set

So, I had the opportunity to do a piece for a local news story. A friend contacted me to see if I could do this lady’s portrait in a a “fashion illustration style” for a story she is doing for the news. I’m excited to see how it all comes out, but here is the illustration:

And here’s the process:

I’ve never met her before, and I only had one photo to go off of, but they were really excited about it. I hope you enjoyed seeing it!

Fashion illustration always seems to have “intention” to me. So, this is my entry for IF this week.

No Time Like Play Time

I’ve been playing with mixed-media overlays of my drawings on other backgrounds:

Gertrude
After working on Gertrude I decided to work on another owl with a different method and medium. As much as I loooove my owls, I also enjoy realism with a touch of whimsy like my Itzhak Perlman. So here’s my colored pencil version of a barn owl:

“When I go to farms or little towns, I am always surprised at the discontent I find. And New York, too often, has looked across the sea toward Europe. And all of us who turn our eyes away from what we have are missing life.”  – Norman Rockwell

Another Day, Another Dollar

Another morning of drawing. Mornings when I don’t have art lessons to teach, I work on my little pieces. I enjoy a cup of coffee and a few inspirational ideas to get started. I just started on Pinterest (search for me!).

Shipping out a few ACEO cards today. I especially love to see repeat customers! I have several consistent bidders, and it always makes me happy to know my artwork continues to go to people who love it.

Back At Last…!

Well, I apologize for the long break, but I am very encouraged with the comments left in my absence (people are reading!).  I have taken a job teaching art to children everyday, ages 5-9, and I love it!  They certainly appreciate my drawing skills as much as I appreciate theirs.

Thought I would leave you with a doodle I did a few weeks ago:

Gorgia Blue, Sharpie Markers on Notebook Paper

I decided to redraw her today with colored pencil, warm colors, and slightly smaller features:

Gorgia Orange, Colored Pencil on Bristol Board

I was so frustrated with my scanner – he refused to connect to the computer, but freaked out whenever I tried to scan anything.  So, the picture quality is a little on the bland side since I had to use my camera… oh, well.

Thanks for reading…I always appreciate feedback!  Remember to leave me your blog addresses too!
