Raindrops on Snapdragons, Stitches in Turquoise

Rainy days. Everything looks more saturated – the greenery becomes greener, flowers stand out as rare pops of color, the tree branches contrast dark against the bright colors.

Raindrops are featured on petals and leaves – shimmering like little starlit orbs.

The sun shining through the grey clouds eliminates strong shadows, and assures no detail will be lost. I couldn’t help myself – I had to get out the camera and take these pictures of my garden today. Thunder and rain only add to the majesty of the plants.

Rain is perfect for a mug of coffee and indoor projects. My Upcycled choice of the day?
My brand new (and very old) sewing machine:
This beauty was a $5 find at a garage sale this weekend.

Works like a charm, and just needed a bit of cleaning. They even included all sorts of extra needles, bobbins, pins, and other helpful supplies. I’m thinking it might be from the 1970’s, but I’m not sure. It’s very heavy – a quality machine made out of all metal.
I’m not sure if I can really express my excitement in finding this.
I can’t wait to start creating all sorts of upcycled works with old fabric finds.

Happy Summer

So, things have been really busy. My dad says, “When it rains it pours” and he is right! I went from having part-time work and trouble finding what I was looking for, to enough work to keep me busy for ages! It’s great, though, and I’m very excited about everything happening. I plan to keep up on this blog, and I really appreciate all the encouragement. It’s much easier if you know people are interested in looking – otherwise you are typing on a blank page for the empty realms of cyberspace.

I’ll leave you with an image of a piece I did last summer for an Art in the Park event, and leave you with the promise of my new stuff to come.  :)

Doodle Again…

So, I was doodling again, and I was thinking about actually turning some of my work into products..like coffee mugs, or aprons.. What do you think?  I’m not exactly sure how much it would cost, but it would probably be really fun to get in the mail… At least, I’d be excited. 

So, you tell me: Would you  be willing to pay $20 for a mug with owls or some elongated animal illustration on it?

Back At Last…!

Well, I apologize for the long break, but I am very encouraged with the comments left in my absence (people are reading!).  I have taken a job teaching art to children everyday, ages 5-9, and I love it!  They certainly appreciate my drawing skills as much as I appreciate theirs.

Thought I would leave you with a doodle I did a few weeks ago:

I was so frustrated with my scanner – he refused to connect to the computer, but freaked out whenever I tried to scan anything.  So, the picture quality is a little on the bland side since I had to use my camera… oh, well.

crazy busy!

Wow! The last two weeks have certainly been very busy! Finals, then graduation, moving out of the dorms…packing, and unpacking, and then re-packing for vacation! I am leaving for New York tomorrow morning for a few days, then heading down to Florida – and stopping in DC and Pennsylvania on the way down! SO, I apologize for the infrequent posts, but they will definitely pick up in June, and perhaps I will even be able to post while I’m on vacation!

I haven’t had a chance to upload anything new, but I don’t want to leave you without any work. Here are a few things I’ve worked on in the past years of school:

meet the crew…

Oswald, Walter, and Regina:

Owl Trio, colored pencil, 2009

Oswald is a brainiac, and entirely too confident in his abilities of reasoning. He is the leader of the group (at least he thinks he is!) and he often gets in trouble with his hard head.

Walter is happy-go-lucky. If something can go wrong for him, it does, but he always finds the silver lining and never seems to mind for more than a second or two. Crying over spilled milk is certainly not his thing.

Regina is a clutz. She is happy and tries to impress, but usually does it while flat on her face. She is the voice of reason in the group – just keep her out of the china shop.
